Car Accident Kills One, Injures Six People

A head-on collision in Joelton killed an Ashland City woman and injured six other on a recent Saturday night. According to the police, Stacy Thornton, 29, died after a 2013 Subaru crossed into the wrong lane and hit the 2004 Acura SUV that her boyfriend was driving. The Nashville Metro Police stated that at the time of the accident, she was sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle.

Ms. Thornton’s boyfriend, Lawrence Belt III, 29, of Ashland City and his four children were in the vehicle at the time of the accident, which happened around 11:30 p.m. at Clarksville Pike. Mr. Belt was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with serious injuries and his children were taken to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt for treatment of their injuries.

The youngest child at 10 months old, Maddie Belt, is in very critical condition. Her brother and sisters, Gage Belt, 2, Aerie Belt, 5, and Emma Belt, 7, are all in stable condition at the hospital. The driver of the Subaru was identified as Carl Dollarhide Jr., 20, of the Nashville area and is in critical but stable condition at the hospital.

Witnesses told police that Mr. Dollarhide was driving south on the Clarksville Pike at a high rate of speed and was passing vehicles by crossing over the double yellow line. There was evidence of alcohol in Mr. Dollarhide’s Subaru, and a blood sample was taken for testing while he was being treated for his injuries.

What to Do After a Car Accident

A car accident can happen in an instant, and the results can be devastating. However, in order to ensure that you will be fully compensated as a victim of the accident there are steps that you can take after the accident has occurred. First, the most important thing to do after an accident is to seek immediate medical attention. Your health and well-being is the most important thing, and seeing a medical professional will document your injuries immediately after the crash.

If possible, take pictures or video of the crash site and try to preserve any evidence that could help identify who is liable for the accident. Be sure to speak with the police and have a police report taken of the crash. Try to get the contact information of any witnesses and write down your recollection of the events as soon as you are able. These steps help to solidify your claims of injury or wrongful death and can establish the correct amount of compensation that you are owed.
