Multiple Car Accidents Leave Many Injured

Multiple car accidents that took place recently around the Nashville area left many people injured and vehicles destroyed. The first accident took place around 2:45 a.m. on Interstate 40 West near mile marker 212. The Tennessee Highway Patrol believes that inclement weather may have played a role in that single-car accident, and the driver and child passenger were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The second accident took place around 4:00 a.m. on Interstate 24 West near the Harding Pike exit. Two people in that accident were hurt when their vehicle struck the median, crossed all lanes of traffic, and hit a guardrail on the road. At least one of the people in that accident was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with serious injuries. It is unclear whether alcohol, drugs, or the weather played a role in this accident.

Authorities stated that investigations into both accidents are still ongoing, and so far no charges have been filed in either case.

Timing of Car Accidents

According to the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, the time of day can play a significant role in the number of car accidents that take place across the state. According to their data, in 2014 there were a total of 176,042 car accident reported in Tennessee. Of those, 6,226 crashes took place between midnight and 2:59 a.m. and another 5,893 accidents happened between 3:00 a.m. and 5:59 a.m. in the early morning hours. In addition, an astounding 12,724 car accidents took place between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. at night. Of the accidents reported so far in 2015, these trends of night time accidents appear to remain the same, with a large number of crashes taking place between the hours of 9:00 p.m. to 5:59 a.m. at night.

The same report by the Department of Safety found that the day of the week also plays a role in car accidents across the state. According to their research, more accidents take place on Friday than any other day of the week. In 2014, there were a total of 30,465 car accidents reported on Friday which was thousands more than any other day of the week. This trend has remained constant into 2015, whereas at of the end of March there were more accidents reported on Friday than any other day of the week.
