Two Killed in Fiery Truck Accident

Two men were killed in a fiery accident between two commercial trucks that shut down Interstate 24 for hours recently. Nashville Metro police have stated that the drivers of both vehicles were killed following the accident. The accident occurred around 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday last week and involved two commercial trucks as well as another car.

According to the authorities, the truck heading eastbound on the interstate ran off of the road, crossed the median, and slammed into a commercial FedEx truck driving in the opposite direction. The FedEx tandem trailers and the other truck’s tractor caught fire, and both drivers were trapped inside their vehicles. The crashed trucks were still ablaze more than one hour after the accident. A third vehicle crashed into the back of the FedEx truck after the collision.

The driver of the westbound FedEx truck who was killed in the accident has been identified as Michael Donley, 52, of Villa Grove, Illinois. The driver of the eastbound semi-truck that caused the accident has yet to be identified. The driver of the car that crashed into the two trucks was transported to the hospital, where it was reported that he suffered from non-critical injuries.

As a result of the accident, westbound lanes of the interstate remained closed until late that afternoon. In a statement to the press, a spokesperson for FedEx stated a “deep concern for all of those involved in this morning’s accident in Nashville.”

Tennessee Workers’ Compensation

If you have been hurt while on the job, you may have a claim for workers’ compensation. These claims work differently than a typical personal injury case, and the rules and regulations differ as well. In Tennessee, the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Workers’ Compensation Division handles this type of claim. In order to collect on a workers’ compensation claim, you must show that the injury “primarily arose out of and in the scope of employment.”

Injured workers are entitled to benefits resulting from the accident, including full medical coverage for treatment and disability pay. Under Tennessee law, the amount that is received in disability pay is determined by the extent of the injury and where the injury took place. Full disability to a vital body part or organ receives more compensation than a temporary disability.

Types of Workers’ Compensation Injuries

Workers’ compensation claims encompass many different types of injuries and wrongful death. Some of the most common injuries arising from an injury on the job include:

  • Head and neck injury (whiplash);
  • Back injury;
  • Traumatic brain injury;
  • Repetitive stress injury; and
  • Paralysis.

Furthermore, there are numerous types of accidents that could result to workplace injuries, in industries across the board.
