Colin Brett CalhounPersonal Injury Lawyer
Colin Brett Calhoun is the founder of Calhoun Law PLC and a Tennessee trial lawyer who represents individuals and families in medical malpractice, wrongful death, personal injury, products liability, and complex civil litigation matters throughout Tennessee.
Since being admitted to practice in 2008, Colin has devoted his career to helping people navigate some of the most difficult moments of their lives. He has represented clients in cases involving catastrophic injuries, medical negligence, trucking and transportation accidents, defective products, premises liability, and other complex disputes. He is particularly passionate about pursuing accountability in cases involving serious injury or wrongful death caused by preventable negligence.
Colin believes that every client deserves direct access to their lawyer and a clear understanding of the legal process. He takes a hands-on approach to every case, working closely with clients, expert witnesses, treating physicians, and other professionals to develop persuasive and well-supported claims. Whether negotiating a settlement or presenting a case to a jury, his focus remains the same: obtaining justice and meaningful results for the people he represents.
A native Tennessean, Colin earned his Bachelor of Science degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Tennessee at Martin, where he received the Outstanding Criminal Justice Student Award and was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi. He later earned his Juris Doctor from the Nashville School of Law, graduating in the top 15 percent of his class and serving as a student member of the Harry Phillips American Inn of Court.
Colin has been recognized by Super Lawyers every year since 2017, first as a Rising Star and later as a Super Lawyer. He is admitted to practice in all Tennessee state courts, the United States District Courts for the Middle, Western, and Eastern Districts of Tennessee, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Why I Practice Law
I am a Tennessee native who grew up in rural Obion County in Northwest Tennessee, where agriculture has long been a way of life. Both sides of my family farmed for generations, and my paternal grandfather devoted more than twenty-five years of his career to serving farmers and protecting natural resources as a soil conservationist with the United States Department of Agriculture.
Although I ultimately chose a different profession, my roots in rural West Tennessee continue to shape who I am and how I practice law. Growing up in a farming community taught me lessons that cannot be learned in a classroom—the value of hard work, personal responsibility, honesty, and treating people with respect. I learned that a person’s word matters, that success comes through perseverance, and that when challenges arise, you face them head-on rather than look for an easier path.
Those principles have guided me throughout my legal career. I became a lawyer because I wanted to help people navigate difficult circumstances, solve complex problems, and seek justice when they have been wronged. Whether I am representing a patient injured by medical negligence, a family grieving the loss of a loved one, or someone whose life has been forever changed by a serious injury, I strive to bring the same work ethic, integrity, and commitment to service that were instilled in me growing up in Obion County.
Family and Community
When he is away from the office, Colin enjoys spending time with his wife, Chloe, and their three sons, Brett, Cameron, and Brigham. Much of his free time is spent at the ballpark, where he coaches youth baseball and serves in a leadership role with Smyrna Baseball League. He is proud to be actively involved in his community and the organizations that help make Middle Tennessee a great place to live and raise a family.
