Man Dies in Taxi Crash in Nashville
A man from Evansville was killed in an auto accident involving a taxi and another vehicle on Valentine’s Day in south Nashville. Ronald Edwards, 57, died from the injuries that he sustained in the accident. Seven other people in the taxi and other vehicle were injured in the crash, including three other residents from Evansville.
Police stated that seven people were riding in a Music City Taxi vehicle around 4:00 p.m. on Saturday when it collided with another vehicle. The accident happened near the intersection of Mt. Pisgah Road and Ravens Glen in south Nashville. According to the police, the taxi failed to yield at the intersection, and they do not believe that alcohol or drugs were an issue in the accident. Mr. Edwards was one of the passengers in the taxi, and he was declared dead at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Other passengers in the taxi included Karen Edwards, 54, Daniel Mooney, 64, Mary Mooney, 59, Daniel Spence, 57, and Donna Spence, 57. Both the Edwards and the Mooneys were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Daniel Mooney suffered from critical injuries, while Mrs. Edwards and Mooney had non-life threatening injuries. The other passengers and drivers of the taxi and other vehicle did not suffer from serious injuries. The taxi driver was the only person in the taxi that was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

According to the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, the year to date total of fatalities from car accidents is 91 people. In total, last year there were 967 fatalities from car accidents across the state. In 2014, a total of 61 deaths happened in Davidson County alone, and the year before the total was 71 deaths.
Of the 628 accidents that resulted in 967 deaths last year, another 30,465 accidents resulted in the injury of one or more people involved. Another 86,192 auto accidents in Tennessee resulted in property damage to the vehicles, totaling 117,285 auto accidents in the state last year alone.

Of those accidents, 309 people who died were known to be restrained, and 367 were unrestrained at the time of the accident. The numbers were similar for 2013, when 303 people who died were using seat belts at the time of the accident and 365 people were not.
