Chattanooga Mother Of Two Dies In I-65 Crash In Nashville

Authorities are investigating the cause of a recent crash that killed a 24-year old mother of two on I-65 in Nashville. The young mother died when her 2003 Hyundai Elantra veered of the highway around 5 am and slammed into an overhead sign pole to the side of the road.

Inside the vehicle were her two infant children, ages 18 months and 6 months. Both children survived the ordeal after being pulled from the wreckage by the jaws of life, a hydraulic tool used to force open the wreckage of crashed vehicles to free trapped auto accident victims. The children were transported to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.

Investigators shut down traffic on the interstate for five hours during the busy rush hour commute as they analyzed the debris to try and piece together exactly what caused the crash. To to the severity of the impact, authorities could not determine if the driver was wearing her seatbelt but did rule out drugs and alcohol as a potential catalyst for the crash.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the children and their families. As a law firm which routinely represents the victims and families of auto accidents, the lawyers of Calhoun Law, PLC understand the impact these types of life-changing accidents can have on individuals.

Nashville traffic problems

Area residents are all too familiar with the traffic problems plaguing the region. With so many vehicles on the highways at one time, tragic accidents like the one that befell the young mother in this story will likely continue to be a serious issue that could put any driver at risk anytime he or she sets forth on a busy highway or interstate.

Currently, the Middle-Tennessee region lacks a full-fledged regional transportation system to combat the growing congestion drivers face. While numerous factors come into play as to why Nashville and its surrounding area are unable to face the issue, one of the biggest issues with the delay is most likely funding such an ambitious project.

While such an undertaking could cost hundreds of millions of dollars, one Texas A&M study analyzing area traffic found that gridlock and over congestion cost the area over $1 billion annually for all the time and fuel drivers spend wallowing in traffic. Perhaps legislators will eventually see the value of such an undertaking, not just in dollars and cents, but also the human cost a broken transportation system has on Nashville drivers and their families.
