Drunk Driver Hurts Two Families in Accident

A driver suspected of driving under the influence has been arrested after he jumped the curb in his car outside of a yogurt shop and injured two families. Jeffrey Poston, 54, was arrested on Sunday just before 9:00 p.m. in Spring Hill when his vehicle jumped the curb outside the town’s Sweet Cece’s frozen yogurt shop and hit nine victims with his car.

According to the police report, the nine victims came from two families that were outside of the yogurt shop at the time of the accident. It included all four parents, a grandmother, and four children all between the ages of eight and ten years old. One of the victims, Leticia Angarita, 68, was airlifted to Vanderbilt University with critical injuries and was thankfully released on Monday from the hospital. The other victims were treated with minor to serious injuries that they sustained in the accident.

Mr. Poston was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, aggravated assault, DUI second offense, vehicular assault and driving on a suspended license. Additional charges are pending depending on the seriousness of the injuries sustained by the victims in this accident and other information discovered by the investigators.

Police have said that this is a man that should not have been behind the wheel in the first place. He was booked in the Maury County Jail and made bond on Monday. A trial date has not yet been set for his crimes.

Tennessee Alcohol-Related Car Accidents

Over the last decade, around 80,000 alcohol-related traffic accidents have been recorded across the state of Tennessee. According to the Department of Safety and Homeland Security, as of the end of March there have been a total of 1,540 accidents this year that have involved alcohol as a contributing factor. Davidson County has either been one of the top counties for alcohol-related accidents every year for at least the last 10 years, along with Hamilton, Knox, and Shelby counties.

Drunk drivers are far more likely to cause an accident on the road than a sober driver. Depending on the size of a person, even one or two alcoholic beverages can be enough to impair a person’s driving on the roads. Driving under the influence can affect a person’s attention, concentration, information processing, judgment, motor skills, reaction time, and vision on the road that leads to thousands of accidents every year. This in turn leads to many people being injured, killed, and property destroyed as a result of drunken driving on Tennessee roads.
