Horrific Six-car Crash In Antioch Leaves One Dead

A Nashville man is facing several criminal charges after causing what investigators called a “horrific” crash involving a total of six vehicles. The chaos led to one fatality and sent seven others to the hospital, including the suspect and his four young children, ages 2 to 6.

The 30-year-old suspect faces multiple criminal counts including vehicular homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and driving on a revoked license. He was taken into police custody after being released from the hospital and held on over $100,000 bond.

According to reports, the suspect was driving a Ford Windstar van on Bell Road around 6 pm when he struck a car at Bell and Cane Ridge. The suspect proceeded to speed off from the scene of the accident, at which point he ran a red light at Blue Hole Road, slamming into two other vehicles.

The driver of one of the vehicles at the intersection was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from his vehicle. The suspect’s van when slammed into three more cars on the opposite side of the intersection, subsequently bursting into flames, according to one witness.

Police report none of the young children in the suspect’s van were properly secured. All four children, the suspect, and a female passenger in the van were transported to Vanderbilt University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Tennessee Uninsured Motorist Coverage

Under Tennessee car insurance laws, all drivers must carry uninsured motorist coverage equal to the policy they carry for their own liability. While some drivers may believe this contributes to increased insurance rates, this coverage is important in cases of tragic accidents involving drivers who operate their vehicles outside the scope of the law.

Even though this type of coverage is meant to protect car accident victims, the simple fact is that these policies are still underwritten by powerful insurance companies that may try to downplay uninsured motorist claims just as they would any other. In these situations, car accident victims should strongly consider speaking to an experienced Nashville auto accident lawyer to help negotiate with the insurance company and get the compensation they deserve.

Typically, victims filing uninsured motorist claims with their insurance carrier cannot file lawsuits to recover damages and instead must work with the provider or go through arbitration. The arbitration process involves both parties (victim and insurer) presenting their side to an arbitrator or a panel of arbitrators. The panel’s decision is usually binding, making having experienced legal help all the more important.
